Oh, where to start? Did somebody say, "Jane, what were the riders wearing?" That's a good start. Navy, lots and lots of navy jackets matched with cream shirts, breeches, and gloves. Reminded me of ladies who have the hat that matches the gloves, that matches the purse... The seasonal navy and buff was only slightly marred by the white saddle pads, or the unfortunate rider who wore navy and buff on a very clean gray nearly white horse. Then there was lots of brass. Those horses wore more brass than could be found in an entire yuppie fern bar. Brass buckles on the bridles, brass plating on the breast plate. It looked very attractive on the bays. More flash than I usually see, but a welcome break ;) Later on cross country, one of the riders was sporting a Desert Shield camouflage ensemble complete with camouflage helmet cover, vest, and shirt. As Carole mentioned, Sven walked by. He gave Sue Bishop a fabulous smile. We did a double take. Later, Matt Simpson, Michelle Furr, and I walked by Sven's cousins Lars and Jan who were part of the x-c jump crew. They carried hammers. HAMMERS, yes you read that right. Speaking of Matt Simpson, the man knows everybody. Sunday he introduced us to Dorothy Trapp's uncle who looked like he walked out of Central Casting's Southern Gentlemen Dept. As we left, Mr. Trapp called out, "Hope yawl have a BIG time." And we did. Matt and Michelle bought fried dough, and we huddled in the stands during stadium jumping. Speaking of stadium, I must say they had a jump that looked like an accident from the Revlon factory. It was pink and burgundy and was landscaped with red azaleas. I came up with the unfortunate nickname of the bordello jump. * New Lifetime Goal: to ride like Karen O'Connor. * Reality Check: I will never ever, ever ride Advanced 3 Day. * Sue Bishop and JJ Towler were the greatest pit crew during my quest to be the Rolex Yo-Yo Champine. Unfortunately I did not win that trip to Vegas, but I've still got my yo-yo, and I'll be practicing. Thanks also goes to the 2 real estate agents who suggested "gelding" my yo-yo string ;) * Thanks to Sue Bishop for pulling me back into the Tipperary tent when a big gust of wind nearly blew me to Oz. * I actually tasted fried dough. * Pictures of Don Hayes horses have me thinking about one day buying a Morgan. * Pictures of JJ's Guinevere have me thinking of one day buying an Arabian. * Award for Sticking to their Shopping List: Susan McAnich. * Impulse Buy Award: Kendt Ecklund's oilskin coat, whereupon Jenni took it away from him and wore it herself ;) * My Soul Sister No. 1: Michelle Furr. Were we separated at birth, or what? Ooops, our births were 10 years apart. * Shake that Thang Award: Kendt's hoola-hooping abilities. * Carole Nowicke...I can't even begin to describe the wickedness that lies under that cool exterior :-o :-) Wish Indiana were closer to NC. * Tammy Makela is a dancing fool.
